What is the Difference between Home Support Workers and Housekeepers?

Home Support Workers (HSW) are Caregivers that have officially completed an education program at any number of colleges in Canada. They have learned a variety of skills around the house to provide Home Support Worker Jobs, including meal preparation and cleaning. In order to be considered a HSW in the health care field, and on CaregiverMatch.com, a person must have an official educational certificate from their college course. Housekeepers, on the other hand, require no formal training or experience for Housekeeping Jobs.

Although both HSWs and Housekeepers are considered to be in the same category of service on CaregiverMatch, in order to carry the title of HSW, the certificate of completion must be validated. Both HSWs and Housekeepers can apply to the same Housekeeping Jobs and Home Support Jobs, but one title is not necessarily considered the other.

Unlike Nurses, HSWs are not registered professionals. HSWs can perform a number of Home Support Worker Jobs, but are not formally trained to provide personal care tasks that Personal Support Workers (PSW) do. Although many HSWs have gained experience in performing personal care duties over the years, because they are not formally trained to perform these tasks they are not permitted to do so under CaregiverMatch as they are not properly insured to do so.

As a Home Support Worker (HSW) or Housekeeper with CaregiverMatch, you can offer a wide range of Housekeeping Jobs and Home Support Worker Jobs that a Client may request. You are also eligible to work as a Housekeeper or Companion.
